Ron Léger

The above photo shows Ron with a lithographic stone bearing his name in the printmaking Department at Mount Allison University, (part of the Naming Project). I spent most of my years at Mount A. in either the painting or printmaking studios. I majored in Printmaking in 1986 after completing courses with Professors David Bobier, Jean Maddison and David Silverburg. I also had the pleasure of working with Dan Steeves who was always able to answer my technical questions. Dan is such a generous soul who would offer assistance and advice to anyone at any time.

In order to start a lithograph print you had to grind the previous image off of the limestone. This was very physical work but worth the effort. There are few print mediums that offer such a spontaneous drawing approach with incredibly rich colours. Some day I hope to have the opportunity to work on Lithographic stones again.

This photo was taken in the new Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts at Mount Allison University. This facility offers a fantastic space for students to explore their art practice.
